CC-RISE at Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution: Application 

June 8 – August 14, 2020

CC-RISE is a ten-week, paid, summer research internship program for Cape Cod and Massachusetts Community College students at the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution (WHOI) in Woods Hole, MA. The program is sponsored by WHOI, NSF Science and Technology Center for Dark Energy Biosphere Investigations (C-DEBI), and the Cape Cod Regional STEM Network.

Up to four students will be working in research labs at the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution where they will learn about scientific research by working on projects related to deep-sea microbiology. The students will participate in various summer research-related events held at WHOI and the Woods Hole science community. They will also be mentored in activities related to the transition from a two-year college to a four-year college and possible graduate studies. The students will be working on presentation of research projects, and by the end of the internship they will present their results to an audience of peers and mentors.

Application Qualifications:

  • Excited to do research in a science lab (no experience needed)
  • Currently enrolled at Cape Cod Community College or a Massachusetts Community College and planning to transfer to a four year college majoring in a science discipline
  • Completed at least 2 semester-long community college science courses (biology, chemistry, etc.)
  • Minimum 3.00 overall GPA
  • Must be a US citizen or Permanent Resident
